Fast & Furious 5

ACTION; 2hr 10min

STARRING: Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, Dwayne Johnson, Jordana Brewster

Auto pilot: from left, Walker and Diesel

The Fast & Furious 5 express — aka Fast Five — rockets away with ex-cop Brian O’Conner (Walker) and his girlfriend, Mia (Brewster), liberating Mia’s brother and Paul’s street-racer buddy, Dominic Toretto (Diesel), from a prison bus. From there it’s on to the favelas of Rio and a car heist that runs off the rails. Now three Drug Enforcement Administration agents are dead, killer Brazilian kingpin Reyes (Joaquim de Almeida) is spitting chips, and Dom and Co are at the top of everyone’s Most Wanted list, including Johnson’s (as long and brawny arm of the law, federal agent Luke Hobbs).

Dom’s exit strategy: assemble a crew, relieve Reyes of $100 million and vanish off the grid — which all comes down to top-flight action that knows exactly what buttons to push. Director Justin Lin, who has been around the F&F block a couple of times, ratchets up the heat with a cast of lookers, a few easy laughs and freewheeling, blow-your-socks-off stunt work. Not to mention a hefty dose of Diesel fuel. If that doesn’t clinch it for you, nothing will.
